Is Young Rock coming to Netflix?

Young Rock is a new series based on the life of beloved wrestler and actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Dwayne stars as himself, while Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, and Uli Latukefu play younger versions of the Hollywood star. In January 2020, NBC ordered Young Rock, a series about Dwayne’s early life created by Nahnatchka Khan and Johnson.

Production began in November 2020 in Australia, and the series premiered on 16th February 2021. So far, it has received consistently high ratings, including an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Young Rock will not come to Netflix any time soon. The show’s distribution rights lie with NBC Universal. NBC Universal has a couple of streaming services under its wing that will most likely get the show first.

Episodes of Young Rock are available on the NBC website and NBC’s streaming service Peacock. NBC is in the process of populating and popularizing Peacock, and it is therefore unlikely that it will offer streaming rights to a rival platform like Netflix.

Young Rock is also available on Hulu. New episodes will be added to the show a day after they air on NBC. NBC Universal corporation’s parent company Comcast still owns a stake in Hulu. It is set to sell its stake in Hulu to Disney by 2024. Therefore, Young Rock’s long-term future on Hulu isn’t guaranteed.
