Is Judas and the Black Messiah coming to Netflix?

The wait for Judas and the Black Messiah is set to end on 12th February 2021. The film was scheduled for release on 21st August 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the release date was postponed to 2021. Judas and the Black Messiah had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

The Shaka King-produced drama has received widespread praise from critics. The film details the betrayal of Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya), leader of the Black Panther Party in the late ‘60s, at the hands of FBI informant William O’Neal (Lakeith Stanfield). Daniel’s performance in the film has earned him nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes and Screen Actor Guild Awards.

Judas and the Black Messiah isn’t coming to Netflix any time soon.

The film’s distribution rights lie with Warner Bros. Pictures, the company that owns the HBO Max streaming service. Judas and the Black Messiah will appear on HBO Max before Warner Bros. considers granting streaming rights to another platform.

Considering the streaming platform war that has been playing out over the past couple of years, it is unlikely that Judas and the Black Messiah will come to Netflix.

Judas and the Black Messiah will be available on HBO Max for one month after the film’s release.

Warner Bros. plans to release its 2021 films in theatres and on HBO Max simultaneously. However, the films will only be available for streaming for 31 days before Warner Bros. pulls them down. The films will then be available for rent on traditional online platforms after spending time in theatres.

It is unclear when Judas and the Black Messiah will return to HBO Max after the expiry of the 31-day period.
